FAQ

Investments and Booking

How do I reserve a photo session with you?

First, contact me with a date or an estimated date you are looking to book. Once we have agreed on a date a digital contract will be emailed to you. A signed digital contract and retainer is required when booking a session with us. Your retainer is due at the time of signing the contract to hold your session date.

How much is the retainer?

All portrait sessions require a 50% of session cost retainer

Why is a retainer required?

Your retainer secures your session date.

What form of payment do you accept?

Cash, check and PayPal (PayPal accepts all major credit cards)

If I cancel will I get my retainer back?

If you cancel you will not receive your retainer back. This covers any loss in the form of lost bookings. However, I do understand that unforeseen events can happen, if so contact me and will discuss and agree to move your session to another date.

Is there ever a travel fee?

Most session have no travel fee. If we do travel 50 miles or more outside Medina, OH a travel fee will be applied to your session's final balance. If a travel fee is required it will be discussed during your booking to ensure no surprise fee is added to your session.

When is my remaining balance due?

The remaining balance for your session is due on the session date.

Permits and Fees?

If there is a photography permit required for your location, then you will be required to acquire and pay for that. If any special parking permits or city parking is required, then we will keep the receipts and invoice you for that after the session.

Portrait Session

What time of day will my session be?

We will shoot your outdoor session either right after sunrise (summer time 7:30am) or a few hours before sunset (summer time 6:30/ 7pm). Why? Because the best available light is right after sunrise and before sunset. If you have to have a mid day session, let me know and will work to find a location that best blocks overhead harsh sunlight. Please keep in mind lighting makes all the difference in your images.

What if it rains or there is no sunset?

If there is rain in the forecast we will see if it's worth waiting out the weather. Some days may only have an afternoon shower, so we may not need to reschedulel your session. If the day is a wash out we would reschedule to the best available date that works for the both of us.

If you really wanted that sunset/golden hour session and its an overcast sky we can reschedule or move forward with your session. Cloudy and overcast days create great lighting and images too!

What if my child or myself are sick?

f anyone is sick, we will reschedule your session. Your deposit will transfer to another date if this should ever happen.

What should we wear for our session?

Try to coordinate clothing as much as possible, avoid busy-looking prints and clothing logos that will distract your eyes in photos. Solid colors like khakis, black skirts, blue jeans, and shirts of similar, solid colors photograph well together. Avoid white shirts if possible, if it’s sunny outside, solid white shirts can become very “contrasty” in sunlight making it harder to meter for properly exposed faces. Pinterest is also great for helping with clothing and color combinations!

What if I wear glasses?

Glasses can cause problems unless you have non-reflective lenses. Make sure that if you do need to wear glasses they do not tint and shade your eyes when you go outside, and that the light does not create a glare in the glass.
I highly recommend that contacts are worn at the time of your session, if in fact you are concerned about glare. Or simply just remove them between shoots.

Do you have any hair and makeup tips?

Use a little more make-up and hairspray than you normally would, you’ll want your make-up to show up a little bit more in your photos and it can get windy outside so the hairspray will help keep your hair in place. Ladies, when applying lipstick, avoid red lipstick. The red pigments in the lipstick turn black in black & white photos, making your lips appear black. Do not go to the tanning bed and overly tan before your shoot, sometimes fake skin tones appear more orange than brown which is not flattering. Natural bronzer or bronzing powder is the way to go. If you worry about the appearance of a double chin in photos, rub a little bit of bronzer or bronzer powder that is 1 shade darker than your natural skin tone under your chin and around your neck to create the appearance of a shadow on your neck. (I use this shading technique sometimes in retouching too) If you’d like to book a professional hairstylist and/or make-up artist, please be sure to check with their availability when booking a shoot with me.

Should we worry about bugs when shooting outside?

YES! A thin layer of bug spray should keep them off of you for an hour or two during your shoot. Also, an unscented dryer sheet (like Bounce) kept in your pockets during the shoot will keep the bees at bay.

Can we bring our pet(s)?

ABSOLUTELY! I LOVE pets ( Especially dogs) and since they are a part of your life, they should be in your photos! Just remember to keep your pet on a leash during your shoot and remember to bring something with you to clean up after them. Feel free to bring treats with you too, they tend to cooperate much more when they have an enticing reward in front of them.

How long will it be until I get my images?

It will be 2-4 weeks from the time of your session before you will receive your images. You will be emailed a link to your online gallery where you can view, share, download, and order images. I usually post a preview on my Facebook or Instagram account within 48 hours of your session!

I had my photo shoot and it was awesome! i want to tell everyone. what's the best way to do that?

This is why I do what I do – to make people happy. I would love for you to tell your friends and family about me and my photography services. In fact, a majority of my business comes from word-of-mouth referrals. I would also love to receive your positive reviews on my Google and Facebook pages. Thanks and I hope to work with you again soon!

I am an aspiring model and would love some shots for my portfolio. do you have a special package for building a book?

If you are signed with an agency, have them contact me and we can set up a test shoot. if you’re just starting out, I recommend booking a regular session.
