Because your day should flow like a dream — not feel like a race.
One of the most common stresses couples face while planning their wedding is the timeline. How do you fit in everything you want — the getting ready, the first look, the ceremony, portraits, cocktail hour, dancing — without running late or feeling rushed?
Spoiler: The secret is smart planning.
After shooting countless weddings in Akron and beyond, I’ve seen the timeline pitfalls that can trip couples up. But don’t worry, I’m here to help you avoid them.
Mistake #1: Starting Too Late
If you start getting ready at noon for a 3 PM ceremony, you might end up scrambling. Aim to begin hair and makeup early enough to give wiggle room.
Fix: Build in buffer time for unexpected delays (traffic, last-minute outfit fixes, etc.).
Mistake #2: Underestimating Getting Ready Time
Hair, makeup, dressing, and photos all take longer than you think — especially with multiple people.
Fix: Schedule at least 3 hours for the bridal party to get ready, including candid photos.
Mistake #3: Forgetting Travel Time
Moving from the hotel to the venue, or from ceremony to reception, can eat up time fast.
Fix: Add realistic travel time (and a cushion) between locations.
Mistake #4: Too Many Group Photos After Ceremony
Group photos are important but can drag on.
Fix: Limit formal group shots to the must-haves, and communicate the list ahead of time.
Mistake #5: No First Look or Waiting Too Long to See Each Other
Waiting until the ceremony to see each other means less time for portraits and sometimes rushed moments.
Fix: Consider a first look. It gives you a private moment and more relaxed photos.
Mistake #6: Skipping a Timeline or Having One That’s Too Tight
A vague or overly packed timeline leads to chaos.
Fix: Work with your photographer or planner to create a clear, realistic timeline.
Mistake #7: Ignoring Lighting Conditions
Photos at the wrong time can be unflattering or missed golden hour magic.
Fix: Schedule portraits during “golden hour” — the hour before sunset — for that warm, dreamy light.
Mistake #8: No Buffer for Weather or Delays
Weather, traffic, or vendor delays happen.
Fix: Build extra time into your schedule so small hiccups don’t derail your day.
Mistake #9: Not Planning for Breaks and Meals
Hungry, tired couples and wedding parties aren’t fun.
Fix: Schedule snack breaks, water, and meals especially before dancing starts.
Mistake #10: Forgetting to Enjoy the Moment
Sometimes the schedule is so tight couples don’t get to just be with each other.
Fix: Plan downtime and quiet moments in your timeline to soak it all in.
